SmartBunker gets HETAS Approved Posted on October 27, 2021 by Alun Smart Bunker is the latest innovative product to gain HETAS Approval.Founder of Greenans Products Limited, Niall Greenan designed the smart bunker to help his Mother, who suffers from arthritis, to fill a coal bucket from her coal storage bunker. Niall explains”When the coal bunker was full, it was difficult to shovel coal out due to the weight from above. When it was empty it was difficult to gather coals which were scattered or had accumulated at the back of the bunker. Coming home from work and going to my mothers and filling couple of buckets of coal and setting them beside the fire, I noticed she was lifting lumps of coal out with her hands and placing coal into the fire, I asked why,she replied there was to much in the bucket and it was to heavy to lift. I studied the ergonomics involved and the smart bunker was born. Where you placed the bucket under the discharge point, pulled the handle with minimal effort and fill the bucket to the required amount you can carry. Mum was pleased as she could do this by herself, by pulling the handle filling a wee bit into the bucket job done and no shovel required.The company’s first product was The SmartBunker, an innovative storage bunker with a spring-loaded side lever which releases stacked product at the bottom of the container, where, for example, a bucket can be placed instead of having to use a shovel or scoop. The SmartBunker The Smart Bunker is made from medium density UV resistant polyethylene, is waterproof and cannot rust or rot this keeps the chosen fuel dry. The product promotes ease of dispensing and refilling removing the need for a shovel and single use bags. As a result this reduces bending and lifting, saving wear and tear on joints and allows the reuse of bags. Customer review says it all
This has proved to be a fantastic piece of kit – in fact, an absolute gamechanger. I use my smart bunker in the French Alps where many of us use pellet stoves. I have two and the constant lugging and opening of bags of pellets is a pain, and frankly messy. With the bunker, however, it’s a doddle – just fill up once a week and then you’re good to go. The height is easy to lift the pellets bags into and one quick slash with a knife or scissors and they are in the hopper. MIne holds at least a dozen bags and thereafter the mechanism is easy to control the flow. Another issue with using individual bags every day is that on opening them you dust everywhere – with the pellet hopper this is much reduced. My hopper is in a storage room, but am considering moving it outside as our local dealer will even deliver and fill it up weekly.Overall, I’m super impressed and delighted with my purchase.
